Community Outreach
COMMUNITY OUTREACH
The community outreach service provides a variety of services in the LondonBorough of WalthamForestand neighbouring boroughs of Newham, Redbridge and Barking & Dagenham to support women and children affected by domestic abuse. The service offers support, advice, information and assistance to women and children affected by domestic abuse, forced marriage, and honour based violence in a non judgemental, non- directive form, in a culturally sensitive way thus empowering women to make their own informed decision and regain control of their lives.
Services provided:
Advice and Information

One-to-one advice and Information sessions on welfare benefits, housing, family issues, and children’s concerns for women who are at the risk of or fleeing domestic violence, forced marriage or honour based violence.

Advocating on behalf of the women with other statutory and voluntary organisations.

Advice is provided in English, Urdu, Punjabi, Hindi and Gujarati.
Courses and workshops for women

Parenting courses are provided for women to help them improve their parenting skills including how to set boundaries, deal with tantrums, communicate effectively and inculcate positive thoughts and behaviour.

Workshops and session are provided for women in the community on domestic violence, forced marriage, honour based violence, child abuse and issues relating to women’s development e.g., stress management, building self confidence, assertiveness, health etc.
Outreach Support

Providing emergency support by prioritising women who are emotionally distressed and those who need immediate referral to refuge.

Providing telephonic advice, support and options to women who are fleeing or at risk of violence.

Drop-in advice surgeries within the London boroughs of Waltham Forest, Barking & Dagenham, Redbridge and Newham in various children’s centre, schools and public places such as libraries.

Providing expertise as and when required to raise awareness of domestic violence and best practice in supporting women.
Employability support
-
Information surgery for women to help gain employment or new qualifications including information about new qualifications, putting together a CV, help with searching for new jobs or new career path, help with completing job application forms, interview techniques, and help in finding voluntary work etc.
